 Walk out the door, onto your snowmobile and you are ready to enjoy miles of groomed snowmobile trails through the beautiful and pristine countryside of Chenango County. Come on your own or with a bunch of friends; there's plenty of parking for your equipment.
Call us for a snow report and be ready to enjoy. We are right on the trail. You can ride to some restaurants and other local establishments. Bring your machines and your warmest gear and be ready to go.

Winter retreat package at the Buckthorn Lodge for the hardy and young at heart.
 This package is not for everyone. You will need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to guarantee access to the Lodge - and perhaps snowshoes or cross-country skis to get around on foot! Although we do plow the 2000-foot driveway, if there is a lot snow, getting in or out could be a challenge; so this is not a retreat for the faint of heart.
During the winter months we offer the use of the Lodge for a minimum of two nights and up to a month. The Lodge provides personal and peaceful respite for writing, for meditation, for a romantic idyll or any type of retreat. As an ideal setting to relax, unwind, rejuvenate and reconnect with yourself, your special partner or with nature the Buckthorn Lodge will surpass your expectations.
The location is extremely quiet. There is just the sound of the snow falling (is there any sound?) and perhaps the animals in the surrounding woods. You can take long walks and not see anyone if that is your desire. Enjoy the solitude of pristine backcountry while you cross-country ski or snowshoe on acres of secluded trails. If you are longing to know what is happening in the world, the Inn is just a short walk away.
There is Satellite TV with DVD and video capabilities; Satellite PC Internet is available by prior arrangement. There are no phones at the Lodge although some cell phones do work right outside of the door.
A full country breakfast is served at the main house should you choose. There is a choice of local restaurants for your other meals or you can whip up your own culinary delights in the Lodge's full kitchen with all amenities. You can bring your food with you or send us a shopping list in advance and we will do your shopping for you; the food cost will be the grocery bill plus 15%. The Lodge is comfortably heated with a cast iron gas stove and fireplaces. . If you are looking for a physical outlet, you are welcome to work on rebuilding the old stonewalls or remove fallen trees in the woods.
The rate for the two nights with one king bedded guest room is $800.00 and includes the exclusive use of the Lodge. For the use of more bedrooms add $300.00 for each room per night. The rate for a one-week stay (7 nights) using one guest room is $2,500.00. For the use of more bedrooms add $1400.00 for each room.
We have made conservation part of our mission; and because the Lodge is an off-grid, all solar house, there is a limited amount of solar electric energy available. We will be happy to share some easy energy saving ideas that you too can practice in going "green".
