Buckthorn Lodge Outside Tour
| The Buckthorn Lodge on Brackett Lake is very discreetly nestled on
300 backcountry acres. Here, the feeling is of being a long way from
the hustle and bustle of urban life. To stay at the Lodge, however, is
not to rough it. This idealized retreat offers what can only be called
luxury. Enchanting and serene rustic living in a completely natural
setting is yours in this unique combination of elegance and privacy.
Located a short distance behind the main Inn, The
Buckthorn Lodge is
at the end of a long gently winding private drive. Tucked in the
woods, this spectacular custom-built home, in a deeply wooded Eden, is
set off the shores of a tranquil lake in the Central Leatherstocking
Region. The private 45-acre lake is spring fed crystal clear water and
is home to many varieties of fish. |

Brackett Lake |
Faced on the lakeside with a huge wraparound porch,
The Lodge is dedicated to being green; it relies on solar power and is
a continuation of its natural surroundings.
In an area of unspoiled natural beauty, the four seasons are
gloriously celebrated in dramatic displays of brilliant autumn color,
fresh green foliage or soft white snow. Early spring fiddle heads and
wild ramps are scattered on the forest floor. The lushness of summer
demurely reveals cool, shaded nooks. Winter offers special delights.
Under a pristine blanket of snow, the woods and Lodge take on an
indescribable quiet and beauty. The frozen lake is breathtaking in
winter's sparkling sunlight. |
| The Lodge welcomes guests with its unique combination of warm
hospitality, simplicity and subtle elegance; it is an excellent choice
for executive, family and private retreats; romantic seclusion; and
quiet interludes surrounded by the luxurious out-of-doors.
The property is professionally landscaped with a winding path and
natural stone steps leading to the more than 400 feet of lake
frontage. Future plans include a large deck with lakeside pavilion and
floating dock. A patio of local natural stone is being completed,
along with a courtyard for sunning and lounging, all bordered by
finely crafted dry stack stone walls. Further afield are old
fieldstone fences, blooming trillium, honeysuckle, coltsfoot, ginseng
and other wild flowers, along with shy wildlife in the surrounding
woods. We welcome you to go beyond and stroll at
Berry Hill Gardens
Inn; enjoy the exquisite beauty of the flower and vegetable Gardens.
