Lisa Merian - Fiber Arts
Lisa Merian has been a fiber artist and a shepherdess for over 30 years. Growing up on a farm in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains nurtured a connection to nature and it's natural beauty. The land and it’s the relationship with the animals are key elements in her life.
Inspiration for color in her hand dyed woolens, fibers, felts and yarns come from the landscape and it's changing seasons.
The lands for the sheep to graze, the weather changes and the growing environment all have an impact on food for sheep, the wool they produce and the plants used to make yarn and fabric dyes. Lisa uses natural dyes from plants harvested from her farm and earth friendly non-toxic dyes for her fiber products. She depends on the land and the environment for a way of life.
Lisa enjoys passing on what she has learned over the years in workshops with children and adults. You can learn about raising sheep, processing the wool, hand dyeing, felting, spinning, weaving, knitting and rug hooking. Lisa takes great pleasure in inspiring others and knowing that these fiber arts and her hard work to maintain quality products will be kept alive in the time honored traditions of past generations and cultures.
Lisa Merian is the owner of the Spinners Hill Shop located on her Chenango County farm just over the hill from Berry Hill Gardens Bed and Breakfast. Visit www.spinnershill.com for where Lisa will be exhibiting and selling at Sheep and Wool Festivals and Fiber Art Shows throughout the east coast.
